Fans have waited for Marvel Studios to develop their own X-Men MCU reboot ever since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox. Now, years later, development on the movie is picking up. In fact, according to a new rumor, we may even know the film’s villain.
The X-Men have already been teased in several MCU projects. A variant of Professor X appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, while another variant of Beast appeared in The Marvels.
Things are set to get even crazier in 2024 with the premiere of Deadpool 3. Both Ryan Reynolds’ titular character and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine are set to appear in that film. A number of other X-Men characters are also expected to appear.
All of these cameos and films are setting the stage for a new X-Men film. Of course, with so many X-Men titles released under Fox, fans are anxious to see what Disney has planned. According to insider Daniel Richtman, however, it sounds like we are getting a very different villain for their X-Men film.
It’s worth noting that this information should be taken with a grain of salt. Especially without any official announcements from Marvel Studios. Nevertheless, previous reports suggested that they’d be avoiding Magneto for this upcoming installment, and now we may know why.
According to Richtman, the villain for the new X-Men film will be Mister Sinister. He would definitely be an interesting and intimidating choice for a new X-Men reboot. Especially for one that’s presumably connected to the MCU.
In the comics, Sinister begins life as a scientist named Nathaniel Essex. He explores information about mutants until Apocalypse uses Celestial technology to turn him into the aforementioned Mister Sinister. He utilizes self-experimentation to further his powers and thus begins a number of unique storylines featuring his character. It’s unknown if the Marvel Cinematic Universe will go this route, but there are certainly plenty of possibilities.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional X-Men news as we have it. For now, if the rumor regarding Mister Sinister is true, then this will be an interesting new take to keep an eye on.
