The Marvel Cinematic Universe reached a major turning point with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The two films marked the end of the Infinity Saga while adding some major plot points that are still ongoing. For starters, it introduced the major MCU event known as The Blip – though one Marvel fan now argues that this ruined the franchise.
The Blip was featured at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. As so many fans know, the shock and realization that their favorite superheroes – along with half of the universe’s population – were turning into dust was a gamechanger. It immediately set the stage for Avengers: Endgame and fans were desperate to see what would happen next.
Of course, being blipped away in an instant – and for several years – is a complex plot point that seems to be ignored by so many installments. There certainly are other major Marvel events that seem to be conveniently ignored when the scenario calls for it. But The Blip, this fan argues, is the worst of these plot points.
“I think The Blip’, while an interesting development for setting up the conclusion of the infinity saga, was, is, and forever will continue to be a stain in the storytelling of the MCU,” the fan writes.
An example he uses is James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. The 2023 superhero film was one of the most successful MCU projects of the year. And while this fan also enjoyed the film, they noted that “there was something nagging at the back of my head.”
“Was the High Evolutionary blipped? Did it affect his experiments? Did the Blip affect the populations he created? This same thing occurred to me while watching Moonknight. I wanted to know if Marc was blipped or if he was out Moonknighting during the five year gap. Neither of these projects really addresses it, and I feel the further out we get from Infinity War, the less it will be addressed, despite an entire generation of the entire universe having to deal with the repercussions.”
The Blip was terrible for long-term storytelling.

Many fans agreed that the Marvel Cinematic Universe went too far by creating The Blip without further acknowledging the consequences. After all, there’s enough material with that concept to carry its own franchise. Sadly, it does look like Marvel Studios is slowly moving away from The Blip and the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame as it continues to introduce new heroes and storylines to worry about.
As noted by the fan, it seems like it’ll probably be this way “until it’s retconned” or some other storytelling avenue comes around.
