The Marvel Cinematic Universe features a number of fan-favorite actors. Now one such actor, Mads Mikkelsen, is reportedly in talks to return to the MCU.
Mikkelsen’s film career includes such hits as Casino Royale, Rogue One, and the television series Hannibal. He also previously appeared in the MCU as Kaecilius in Doctor Strange. Now, according to Daniel Richtman, he could once again be appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Interestingly, however, Mikkelsen will not be returning as the same character if this rumor is true. Of course, this should be taken with a grain of salt. But Marvel Studios has recast returning actors as new characters in the past.
As mentioned, Mads Mikkelsen previously played Kaecilius in 2016’s MCU entry Doctor Strange. The Disney Plus series Loki also featured the character, albeit in an archival form, so it’d be interesting to see what role he could play for a future installment of the shared universe.
One such theory that’s gained popularity is that Mads Mikkelsen could portray a fan-favorite villain from Marvel’s Fantastic Four comics. This character would be none other than Doctor Doom, someone that fans have been waiting to see in the MCU. Many feel like he could be introduced in the upcoming Fantastic Four film, though it’ll likely be a cameo or supporting role to lead into something bigger.
Obviously none of this is confirmed, but the timing would certainly make sense. Especially when one considers that Kang the Conqueror actor Jonathan Majors was fired due to his legal troubles. This would certainly make room for a fan-favorite villain like Doctor Doom to take his place.
Overall, we’ll have to see how this situation develops and, if true, where Mads Mikkelsen could pop up. The actor previously auditioned for Doctor Doom in a previous Fantastic Four adaptation, so if it works out, we could see things come full circle.
