The fifth season of Stranger Things is currently in the works. The upcoming season is intended to conclude the fan-favorite Netflix series. Many Stranger Things fan theories have surfaced as a result, but the show’s creators have put one particular theory to rest.
The Duffer Brothers have been involved with Stranger Things since the beginning. They’ve shepherded the storyline and its complex characters ever since creating the show for Netflix. As such, fans are eager to see their ending for the story, and have suspected one possibility for the show’s conclusion.
According to the Duffer Brothers while speaking with Metro, via SFF Gazette, they were able to debunk one of the most popular theories regarding the series. Many fans have suspected that the storyline could ultimately end as a fictional campaign for a game of Dungeons and Dragons.
Here’s what the Stranger Things creators had to say regarding that theory:
“That is correct,” Matt joked. “That is the ending…No.” Ross added, “That would be the equivalent of, “That’s all a dream”. No, I assure you that is not how we’re going to end the show. We’ve known where we’ve been going for a while. And we feel comfortable with it; hopefully, it satisfies everyone. We’ll see.”
It’s certainly reassuring for fans to know the series won’t end up being one massive dream sequence. Of course, the theory does have some merit. Especially considering the parallels between the series and the hit RPG game, including the names used for some of the creatures. But it makes sense that the characters are simply naming the monsters based on what they know and understand – and that just so happens to be Dungeons and Dragons.
As such, we’ll have to wait and see how the series really does end with Stranger Things Season 5. Fortunately, it’s not the entire end for the franchise, as there are both live-action and animated spin-off projects in development. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding these upcoming works and the fifth season of the main series as we have them.
