The future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe revolved heavily around Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror. That is, until, the actor was found guilty for assault and harassment. Now it looks like the plan is changing to divide Avengers: Secret Wars into two parts.
Of course, one could have already imagined that the ill-fated Avengers: The Kang Dynasty would have likewise served as the second part of the story. This would have resulted in the same kind of duology as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Without Kang The Conqueror, however, it looks like the Secret Wars storyline will be the main focus.
Obviously this information should be taken with a grain of salt. At least until Marvel Studios makes an official announcement. But now that Jonathan Majors is no longer in the picture, it does look like a likely scenario. As shared via insider Jeff Sneider:
“I said that the next Avengers movie would not be called The Kang Dynasty and that it sounded like Marvel was searching for one writer — who ended up being Michael Waldron — and one director to effectively tackle a two-part Secret Wars movie that would serve as the conclusion of the Avengers Saga.”
Sneider emphasized that one source even called Secret Wars “a giant five-hour movie with a year-long intermission.” The conclusion of this film will then lead into Marvel Studios’ next major plan: X-Men. The superhero brand was part of Disney’s acquisition of Fox, and now that they’re preparing to use the fan-favorite characters and storylines, they’re not letting Majors’ verdict get in the way of that.
As such, we’ll have to see how the two parts for Avengers: Secret Wars shape up. It’s clear that these two films will be the Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame for the current phases of the MCU, and if they’re setting the stage for the next chapter of the franchise, then fans will no doubt be excited.
