    Controversial Trailer For New Movie Sparks Backlash Online

    A trailer for a new movie has sparked backlash online as social media users respond to a controversial line of dialogue.

    An upcoming comedy movie from Focus Features has social media in a frenzy. As you can see below, a newly-released trailer for the film has sparked backlash online.

    The film stars Justice Smith and David Alan Grier, with Kobi Libii making his directorial debut with the film. However, the “fresh, satirical comedy,” as it’s referred to in the official synopsis, features both a title and line of dialogue in the trailer that are being considered controversial by some.

    As shared via Focus Features, the synopsis for the film – including its title – is as follows:

    “The American Society of Magical Negroes is a fresh, satirical comedy about a young man, Aren, who is recruited into a secret society of magical Black people who dedicate their lives to a cause of utmost importance: making white people’s lives easier.”

    As mentioned, however, this isn’t the only controversial element. The trailer includes a line of dialogue from Grier. He begins by asking Smith the following:

    “What’s the most dangerous animal on the planet?”

    The two are standing in front of a shark, and while that’s Smith’s answer, it’s Grier’s response that has social media talking:

    “White people when they feel uncomfortable.”

    He continues to emphasize this train of thought:

    “White people feeling uncomfortable precedes a lot of bad stuff for us,” he continues. “That’s why we fight white discomfort every day. Because the happier they are, the safer we are.”

    Naturally, some social media users had issues with the line of dialogue. Here’s an example of the backlash the trailer prompted as a result via X:
