It isn’t uncommon for networks like HBO to cancel a series, even one that’s a hit with audiences. For their latest show coming to an end, however, it’s quite shocking because it’s one has been available on the platform for decades.
As shared via THR, this particular fan-favorite series is going to be cancelled with its twelfth season which will arrive after nearly 25 years on the air. The show gained an impressive 51 Emmy nominations, winning twice for Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series. It also received six Golden Globe nominations, securing a win for Best Television Series – Comedy or Musical back in 2003.
Fans will no doubt be disappointed, but all good things must come to an end, and the show’s star seems quite happy to move on. As we prepare to say goodbye, we can look forward to a final season filled with the familiar faces that have become an integral part of the show’s success.
Here’s what Larry David, who plays a fictionalized version of himself for the hit series, had to say about HBO ending Curb Your Enthusiasm:
“As Curb comes to an end, I will now have the opportunity to finally shed this ‘Larry David’ persona and become the person God intended me to be — the thoughtful, kind, caring, considerate human being I was until I got derailed by portraying this malignant character,” David stated. “And so ‘Larry David,’ I bid you farewell. Your misanthropy will not be missed. And for those of you who would like to get in touch with me, you can reach me at Doctors Without Borders.”
Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO & Max Content, shared the following statement:
“It’s hard to say farewell to such a ground-breaking, brilliantly funny and iconic series like Curb Your Enthusiasm, which has left its mark across television and the comedy genre,” Bloys added. “Working alongside Larry David and [executive producer] Jeff Schaffer as well as all of the comedic masterminds that comprise our producers, cast and crew has been a joy that I will always treasure.”
The twelfth season of the series will consist of ten episodes. The premiere will happen next year on February 4, 2024, with episodes airing weekly on Sundays. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the fan-favorite series and other HBO announcements as we have them.
