The Pulp Fiction director’s recommendation of the film resurfaced in an interview clip shared on YouTube by James Whale Bake Sale. He emphasizes just how much he loves the film and that he loves to “watch it burn audiences down like crazy.”
For those interested, the film he’s referring to is Takashi Miike’s Audition. It’s a Japanese movie released in 1999. Here’s what Quentin Tarantino had to share regarding the horror film:
“Takashi Miike’s Audition. A true masterpiece if there ever was one,” the director shared. “I love this movie, by the way, and I love this sequence, but I watch it burn audiences down like crazy. It’s a Japanese movie; it’s one of the really, really strong movies and quite a masterpiece, one that’s come out in the last twenty years; you should check it out.”
His sentiments are definitely shared by other fans of the film. Audition has gradually reached cult classic status over the decades. As such, his recommendation should absolutely be considered by anyone looking to branch out into Japanese horror cinema.
