The Beverly Hills Cop film franchise began in 1984. Eddie Murphy starred in the film which quickly became a major success. It was followed by Beverly Hills Cop II in 1987 and Beverly Hills Cop III in 1994. Now, decades later, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is set to revive the brand via Netflix.
As you can see below, Eddie Murphy has returned to portray the titular character in the latest Beverly Hills Cop entry. This new film, which is set to premiere via Netflix, has been in the works for decades. It’s quite exciting, then, to see that the project has finally gotten off the ground.
The newly-released trailer featuring Eddie Murphy back as Axel Foley is proof of that. Fans can see the trailer for Beverly Hills Cop 4 below:
In addition to Eddie Murphy, the cast of the new sequel includes Judge Reinhold, Paul Reiser, and Bronson Pinchot. Jerry Bruckheimer is also returning to produce the film. Here’s a statement he shared about Murphy being back for the film:
“Anytime he walks on set, you never know what you’re going to get. And it’s always pretty brilliant,” he enthuses. “Every day he’s there throws you back to the ‘80s.”
Newcomers to the cast include Taylour Paige as Foley’s daughter, Kevin Bacon as a LAPD special-unit officer, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Murphy’s new partner. Mark Molloy directed the film which Bruckheimer promises is quite hilarious. He has the following to share about Gordon-Levitt:
“He gets stuck with Axel and they are hysterical together,” he promises. “Joseph is such a great straight man for Eddie.”
Though he does insist that the film relies on more than just humor:
“It’s about the emotion,” he states. “No matter how funny it is, how much great action it has, it’s all about the heartstrings.”
There is no release date for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley at this time – but the trailer says Summer 2024. It makes sense – especially with it being the 40th anniversary of the original movie. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on the highly-anticipated sequel as we have them.
