The Sonic the Hedgehog movie franchise has been surprisingly successful for Paramount. The first film, while introducing a live-action version of Sonic, paved the way for the second film which gave meaningful roles for both Tails and Knuckles. Now it looks like another important character is set to make their debut in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
This particular character’s arrival was teased in the second film, much like the successful first had a post-credits scene featuring Tails. Now the official Sonic the Hedgehog account on X is teasing the character with a much clearer look. As you can see below, none other than Shadow the Hedgehog has been revealed.
Of course, it isn’t a full reveal, but fans can certainly recognize the character. “Off and RUNNING,” the caption for the image reads, noting that the film will be “only in theatres” on “December 20, 2024.”

For those unfamiliar, Shadow is an antihero that often finds himself at odds with Sonic. He’s gradually become a major part of the franchise and a fan-favorite. Now that we will have him in the live-action film franchise – we’ll have to see what this means for the series going forward.
The upcoming sequel will once again be directed by Jeff Fowler. Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington wrote the screenplay for the film.
Ben Schwartz will return as the voice of Sonic, Colleen O’Shaughnessey will return as Tails, and Idris Elba will return as Knuckles. The live-action cast includes James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, Lee Majdoub, Tom Butler, and Shemar Moore.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the production of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 as we have them. Though we have a little more than a year to wait before the film hits theaters, this is an exciting glimpse at what’s to come. And it’s likely that the marketing team is just getting started.
