Fans waited quite some time for Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving to get off the ground. The newly-released slasher film originated as a faux trailer featured within Grindhouse. Now it’s taken on a life of its own as it’s just been announced that Eli Roth will return to direct Thanksgiving 2.
Fans can see Eli Roth announce the new himself in a newly-released Instagram video. As you can see below, “John Carver will kill again!” This is stated clearly in the post’s caption which continues to reveal several exciting details:
“@thanksgivingmovie sequel is a GO!!! Thank you everyone who supported ORIGINAL HORROR in theaters!!! Go see it now on the big screen while it’s in cinemas, sequel set for release in 2025! Taking a year to really get the script right, working on it starting today!”

Hopefully we’ll have more information as we approach 2025. As for now, Eli Roth is quickly getting to work on the film’s script. It looks like we’ll have a lot less of a wait going into this sequel than it took for the first Thanksgiving to happen. All in true slasher movie style.
The first installment, with only a budget of $15 million, has already grossed $30 million at the worldwide box office. In addition to its financial success, both critics and fans have praised the film. As such, it’s no surprise that the studio would want to greenlight a sequel.
On that note, it’s unclear what exact direction the story will take. But if John Carver is making his big comeback – then he’s guaranteed to stab and carve his way to the top as a proper horror icon.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Thanksgiving 2 as we have them. If the first film is any indication, then this will be another gory and exciting addition to the holiday horror genre.
