Netflix has become widely recognized for its frequent cancellations. Now it’s been revealed that the massive streaming platform is cancelling as many as five of its shows. This announcement comes not long after the conclusion of the SAG-AFTRA strike, and reveals that Netflix’s alleged “best series” is one of the Netflix shows getting the axe.
Quite a few different shows were cancelled in this announcement. As shared via Independent, “networks and streaming services are having to make decisions about their existing properties, with it being expected that many might fall foul of an untimely axing due to rising costs after production on all projects was stalled while the writers and actors protested for fairer compensation.”
Four of the five Netflix shows that were cancelled include Agent Elvis, Captain Fall, Glamorous, and the sci-fi comedy series Farzar. As mentioned, however, there’s one show in particular that has numerous fans upset. In fact, a petition was already launched in an effort to save it.
The publication notes that this series is none other than Shadow and Bone. The fantasy series is based on Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse novels, and while it was successful enough to spawn a video game and a second season, it seems like Netflix couldn’t justify greenlighting it for another go.
Bardugo shared her own statement regarding the cancellation on Instagram. As you can see, she’s both “heartbroken and deeply disappointed,” though she’s also grateful to have had her work adapted in the first place.
