Blumhouse has a hit on their hands with Five Nights at Freddy’s. The newly-released video game adaptation has made $296 million worldwide on a $20 million budget. Naturally, fans are wondering when to expect a sequel, and now a report claims Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is in the works.
As shared over at The Hollywood Handle, not only do they allege that the sequel is already in the works, but that director Emma Tammi will return to helm the continuation. “Tammi, who directed the first film adaptation of the popular video game series, will return to direct Five Nights at Freddy’s 2,” the publication reports, noting that the film “is expected to start production in 2024.”
Additionally, while they claim that Tammi will return as the movie’s director, they note that it’s “unknown which other cast and crew will be returning for the sequel, but once production commences, more should be revealed to the public.” If production does begin in 2024, however, we should have those details sooner rather than later.
It’s worth noting that actor Matthew Lillard, who had a rather important role to play in the first Five Nights at Freddy’s, signed a three-picture deal with Blumhouse and Universal regarding the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise. As such, it seems likely that he will return for the sequel.
The 2023 video game adaptation is an incredible success. As not only did the film break records at the box office, becoming Blumhouse’s highest-grossing film ever, but it actually had a simultaneous release on Peacock. The fact so many people supported the movie in theaters when it was available to stream is definitely a sign that fans loved the movie. And, if nothing else, it shouldn’t come as a surprise then to see that Blumhouse would want a sequel.
Of course, this is far from an official announcement, so we’ll have to see what Blumhouse and Universal have to share on that front in the near future. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.
