Zack Snyder has been responsible for several movies set in the DCEU. In fact, he directed some of its earliest entries, including Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Now Zack Snyder has opened up about one of the DCEU’s most controversial stars – Amber Heard.
Fans will recall that Amber Heard played Mera in Aquaman and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. And, despite fans’ attempts to have her removed, she will reprise the role in this year’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. She’s become a controversial figure due to her divorce with Johnny Depp, which led to a series of lawsuits regarding defamation and domestic abuse.
As for Zack Snyder, he claims that he would work with Amber Heard again “in a second.” Snyder confirms as much while speaking with THR. Additionally, he doesn’t understand the backlash that Heard has faced over the years.
“I just don’t get it,” Snyder shared.
“If other people don’t like her, I don’t know what to say. I would work with her in a second.”
For those hoping this means Snyder would return to DC, however, they shouldn’t get their hopes up. Snyder claims that he’s done working with DC, though he would be open to “a true representation of the graphic novel” The Dark Knight Returns. Which, more than likely, wouldn’t have room for Amber Heard’s Mera in the film.
On the other hand, Zack Snyder is still keeping busy. He’s been working with Netflix lately on Rebel Moon, an all-new sci-fi adventure franchise inspired by the likes of Star Wars and Dune. Perhaps there could be room for one of his Netflix projects to feature Amber Heard, especially if he’d be so willing to work with her. But given the way the internet views her, it’s unknown if that would happen.
As always, we’ll just have to see how the situation changes. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates as we have them.
