Warner Bros. Discovery’s franchise of superhero movies, previously known as the DCEU, has encompassed a number of popular titles. While many of these films have been quite successful at the box office, others have sadly been flops. Now one such superhero flop has taken the top spot on Max.
Max has offered plenty of lesser-seen films, or outright financial failures, to find new life in the digital era. It’s always interesting to see what catches the interest of subscribers at different times. Now this particular DC superhero movie is Max’s hottest film.
As revealed via FlixPatrol, the film is number one on Max, and it’s clear that fans are quite interested in checking it out. Now it’s unclear why it didn’t have such a success in theaters – but it does suggest interesting possibilities for the film’s titular character to make a comeback.
The film, DC’s Blue Beetle, made only $129.3 million at the global box office. This, against its $104 million budget, is quite unfortunate for the superhero film which tried to offer a brand-new character for the uncertain future of the DCEU. Of course, there are various reasons why the film could have failed at the box office yet succeeded on streaming.
In fact, quite ironically, the film was initially intended to be released as a Max exclusive. Perhaps it’s a bit of fate, then, that it would do better on the streaming platform. In any case, it’s great to see that it has finally found an audience, and one can hope that it’s not the last we see of the Blue Beetle.
Ángel Manuel Soto directed the film which stars Xolo Mariduena, Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, Harvey Guillén, George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar, Susan Sarandon, and Raoul Max Trujillo.
In addition to viewing the superhero film on Max, fans can currently purchase Blue Beetle both digitally and on physical media formats like Blu-ray and 4K UHD.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional DC updates and other news regarding what’s trending on Max. It’s clear that plenty of other underappreciated films have the opportunity to make a comeback on the streaming service and others like it.
