The Naruto franchise is popular as both a manga and anime series. Now it looks like Naruto is headed to live-action as well.
As shared by Variety, a new Naruto movie is in the works. The film is intended to be live-action and already has a screenwriter attached to pen the story. The publication reveals that none other than Red Sonja screenwriter Tasha Huo has been tapped to write the live-action adaptation’s story.
In addition to the upcoming Red Sonja film, she also wrote a screenplay for an animated adaptation of Tomb Raider. Clearly she has a knack for adaptations and new iterations, and she had the following to share about her speciality:
“Adapting iconic characters or IP makes the writing of it easier, because the passion for writing it is already there,” Huo says. “I’m so inspired by these characters already that it’s exciting to just take a part of their journey and try to tell that fun story in a way that would appeal to me as a fan.”
On that note, the project still appears to be in the early stages of development. A live-action adaptation was previously announced in 2015 with Michael Gracey attached to direct. It’s unknown if he’ll still be involved with this latest attempt to bring the iconic character into live-action.
Adaptations of manga and anime projects have become quite popular in recent years. While many of these adaptations have failed to excite fans in the past, these days they’re becoming better received, with Netflix‘s One Piece series being one such example.
Hopefully this means that Naruto is in good hands and that fans will still be able to enjoy the live-action interpretation alongside the beloved manga and anime versions. As always, stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding this project as we have them.
