Fans were eagerly looking forward to a new movie from Disney’s 20th Century Studios. Unfortunately, it looks like Disney is no longer releasing the film.
The film’s release date was postponed when the SAG-AFTRA strike occurred. Now that the strike is over, there still isn’t enough time for the cast to promote the movie – as it was scheduled for a December 1st release. As such, Disney seemingly wanted out altogether, and the film’s financier – New Regency – will now be going a different route.
As noted via Deadline, The Bikeriders will be acquired by Focus Features. Focus is taking global rights to the pic, reteaming them with New Regency who they partnered with on 2022’s The Northman. A 2024 theatrical release is planned. Universal will distribute the movie overseas.
At the time of writing, The Bikeriders has an 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, with the critic consensus reading: Fueled by a charismatic cast and the gritty authenticity of writer-director Jeff Nichols’ approach, The Bikeriders offers a conventional yet impactful look at motorcycle culture.
Jeff Nichols both wrote and directed the film which is based on the 1967 photo-book of the same name by Danny Lyon. However, one of the most exciting aspects regarding the project is its ensemble cast. The film stars Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, and Tom Hardy. Additionally, the supporting cast includes Michael Shannon, Boyd Holbrook, Norman Reedus, Mike Faist, Emory Cohen, Damon Herriman, Beau Knapp, and Karl Glusman.
With a cast like that, it should come as no surprise that fans are eagerly anticipating the release of this film. For those unaware, the plot of the movie is as follows:
“Set in the 1960s, it follows the rise of a fictional Midwestern motorcycle club. Seen through the lives of its members, the club evolves over the course of a decade from a gathering place for local outsiders into a more sinister gang, threatening the original group’s unique way of life.”
