Disney’s streaming service, Disney Plus, has allowed numerous properties to be revived. One such property, was reinvented with a brand-new spin-off series. Sadly, Disney Plus has opted to cancel the series after only one season.
As revealed via Variety, the short-lived series was initially ordered by Disney for Disney Plus in early 2022. It later debuted on their platform in May 2023. The show’s co-creator, Adam F. Goldberg, shared a statement regarding the cancellation.
Goldberg wanted to not only thank the show’s cast and crew, but he also called it “the most joyful and collaborative experience of my career.”
Fortunately, for fans of The Muppets Mayhem, it doesn’t seem like it’s the end. Goldberg insists in his statement that, alongside the show’s other co-creators, Bill Barretta and Jeff Yorkes, that more Muppets content is on the way.
Huge thanks to the critic & fan love that got us 6 Emmy noms and a #1 Billboard album. Mayhem was truly the most joyful and collaborative experience of my career. From day one all I’ve cared about is creating a Muppet-verse and YES I am already cooking up more Muppets with… https://t.co/eckhhQkb5u

For those unfamiliar, here’s the premise of the series:
“The Electric Mayhem Band — Dr. Teeth on vocals and keyboards, Animal on drums, Floyd Pepper on vocals and bass, Janice on vocals and lead guitar, Zoot on saxophone and Lips on trumpet — on an epic, music-filled journey to record their first-ever studio album. With the help of a driven young music executive, Nora (Singh), the old-school Muppet band comes face to face with the current day music scene as they try to finally record their first studio album.”
The cast of The Muppets Mayhem included Lily Singh, Tahj Mowry, Saara Chaudry, and Anders Holm. Performers included Matt Vogel as Floyd, Bill Barretta as Dr. Teeth, Peter Linz as Lips, Dave Goelz as Zoot, David Rudman as Janice, and Eric Jacobson as Animal. Celebrities like Peter Jackson even made cameo appearances.
Goldberg and Barretta served as executive producers with Yorkes co-executive producing. Goldberg executive produced via Adam F. Goldberg Productions along with Michael Bostick. Kris Eber, David Lightbody, and Leigh Slaughter also executive produced. ABC Signature and The Muppets Studio produced.
