Fans are naturally curious about Superman: Legacy. The upcoming DC superhero film is expected to kickoff a new continuity of superhero movies. Naturally, fans want to know what they’re getting into. Now James Gunn has clarified one detail after a Superman: Legacy rumor regarding the middle east popped up online.

The rumor first surfaced from @ViewerAnon on X. Though he notes that the legitimacy is “fuzzy,” he heard that the new film begins while “Superman’s early in his career and isn’t widely known. His big public reveal happens in the Middle East,” he adds, “where terrorists have gotten ahold of Kryptonian tech.”

Heard some stuff about SUPERMAN: LEGACY. I trust the source but this stuff is always fuzzy.

One fan took the liberty of asking James Gunn about this middle east rumor regarding Superman: Legacy on Instagram. Gunn shared an image on the social media platform, revealing a wall dedicated to Superman in his production office. The fan then asked the following in the comments section:

“Please tell us the ‘terrorist threat in the Middle East’ storyline rumour isn’t true”

    Gunn replied rather bluntly:

    “It isn’t true.”

As such, fans shouldn’t expect to see any such plot devices in the new film. Of course, it’s possible that Gunn had to rewrite any middle east elements due to the real-world situations going on right now. Either way, it’s not going to be part of the movie.

James Gunn will direct Superman: Legacy from a screenplay he wrote. Peter Safran will produce the film. The original Superman character was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

David Corenswet will play the titular character, Superman aka Clark Kent, while Rachel Brosnahan has been cast as Lois Lane.

Fans can expect to see Superman: Legacy hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the production of Superman: Legacy as we have them.

Naturally, fans have plenty of questions about the new iteration. But we can only hope that more details come to light soon – and that Gunn is still willing to clarify which ones aren’t true.
