The conclusion of John Wick: Chapter 4 could have perhaps easily been an ending for the entire franchise. However, that won’t be the case, as Lionsgate has confirmed that John Wick 5 is in the works.
The ending did seem to indicate that Keanu Reeves‘ character was both dead and buried. But in a world where people live double lives, the door is certainly open for his character to have survived. Of course, that’s also speculation at this point, but John Wick 5 is only one of several exciting projects in development.
As shared by Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair Joe Drake, during Lionsgate’s quarterly earnings call, the film is in the midst of being written now that the WGA strike has ended. Here’s what he shared via ComicBook:
“On the Wick side we got multiple spin-offs and Wick Five,” Joe Drake revealed. “We started to work on (it) right when the writer’s strike started and we’ve gotten back to work as soon as it ended.”
We’ve already seen some of these spin-off projects come to light. This includes the television miniseries The Continental: From the World of John Wick and the upcoming film Ballerina. Now it looks like we should be expecting other such film and television projects in addition to John Wick 5.
Of course, we’ll just have to hope they tackle the right story for the job. There are plenty of possibilities to explore, in the past, present, and future. So as long as they don’t get too far ahead of themselves – the John Wick franchise could continue to be one of the biggest modern IPs.
Fans can next look forward to Ballerina, Len Wiseman’s upcoming spin-off which stars Ana de Armas as the titular character. Keanu Reeves is also set to make an appearance as John Wick.
