Tom Hiddleston has played the Marvel fan-favorite character Loki in the MCU since Thor was released in 2011. Now, more than a decade later, Tom Hiddleston as implied his potential retirement from playing Loki.
The character seems to have become more popular than ever before with the addition of his very own Disney Plus series. Tom Hiddleston leads the show which sets up several major events for the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward. Now that the second season of the series concludes the show, it looks like Tom Hiddleston may consider it the end of his character.
Hiddleston suggested as much while appearing on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show. Here’s what he shared:
“It’s the conclusion to Season 2, [and] it’s also a conclusion to Seasons 1 and 2,” Hiddleston explains. “It’s also the conclusion to six films, and 12 episodes, and 14 years of my life.”
He continues to emphasize just how long playing Loki has been a part of his life:
“14 years,” he adds, “I was 29 when I was cast. I’m 42 now. It’s been a journey.”
It’s interesting because Hiddleston strongly implies that the finale of Loki Season 2 is the conclusion of not just the series, but Loki’s entire role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe up until now. As such, it would seem like Tom Hiddleston could very early leave the role here. It would certainly be a high note considering the events of the show and what an impact his character has had in the MCU.
Otherwise, there are certainly other places that Hiddleston’s Loki could appear. For example, with Avengers: Secret Wars coming up, there will no doubt be major ties to the Disney Plus series. It would make perfect sense to have Tom Hiddleston make an additional appearance as Loki for the events of that film. Of course, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
Fans can currently stream both seasons of Loki via Disney Plus.
