The Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to be moving full steam ahead now that the SAG-AFTRA strike has been resolved. This means that fans will be getting updates for all kinds of highly-anticipated movies, including the upcoming blockbuster Fantastic Four. Now a rumor has surfaced which suggests Jake Gyllenhaal could have a major role in the new Fantastic Four movie.
It’s certainly an interesting situation. After all, Jake Gyllenhaal previously played a major role as the villain Quentin Beck in the Spider-Man movie Spider-Man: Far From Home. Though the Marvel Cinematic Universe has reused actors in the past, so it’s not impossible. As for where the rumor stems from, it was shared by insider Daniel Richtman via X.
Here’s what Richtman had to share, noting that the conclusion of the SAG-AFTRA strike is set to get things moving again on the Fantastic Four front:
“They haven’t done casting yet,” he reminds, “but now that the strike is over they’ll get right to it. First thing first, seeing if Jake Gyllenhaal will accept the offer for Reed Richards.”

A number of actors have been rumored for the highly-anticipated Fantastic Four film. After all, this is bound to be one of the MCU’s biggest movies yet, and it’s important that they cast these characters correctly. Other actors that have been thrown around include Adam Driver, though Jake Gyllenhaal may have surpassed him in demand for Fantastic Four. As such, we’ll have to see what happens.
Obviously this information should be taken with a grain of salt. After all, we’ve seen that just about anything can happen in the entertainment industry at this point. But now that the strike is over – there is bound to be movement soon.
The upcoming MCU movie is set to be directed by Matt Shakman from a screenplay penned by Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer.
Fantastic Four is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on May 2, 2025.
