Deadpool 3 was one of many highly-anticipated blockbusters in the works before the SAG-AFTRA strike happened. Now that the strike is over, however, the film can resume production. Though this does mean fans need to expect a new release date for Deadpool 3.
Fortunately, it isn’t that much of a delay, and star Ryan Reynolds shared an adorable character reveal to make the announcement that much sweeter. As you can see below, Reynolds shared the first look at Dogpool, a canine variant of Deadpool that Marvel fans will no doubt love.
As Reynolds describes in the caption for the incredibly adorable image which also features the new Deadpool 3 release date:
“Did Dogpool save the day? Not a chance in gremlin hell. But she IS currently causing the Disney plushy merch department nightmares. Coming with the movie, Summer 2024”

It’s certainly a great announcement for fans, if not for the new release date, then the reveal of Dogpool. Of course, Reynolds wasn’t able to deliver a specific date, but at least we know the delay should only effect the film by a couple of months. Hopefully that means we’ll also have more information soon regarding when the shoot will resume and what other details will come to light.
Shawn Levy is directing the film from a screenplay written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux previously worked on the film’s screenplay.
In addition to Ryan Reynolds, the cast of the film also includes Hugh Jackman, Brianna Hildebrand, and Shioli Kutsuna, in addition to returning cast members Karan Soni, Leslie Uggams, Morena Baccarin, Stefan Kapicic and Rob Delaney. Newcomers include Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen.
As for now, it looks like fans can expect to see Ryan Reynolds back as Deadpool, and his trusty friend Dogpool, when the film hits theaters in Summer 2024.
