2023 has brought us a surprising number of horror movies. This includes both original thrillers and continuations of beloved franchises. This particular horror film, however, is a brand-new story that has some Netflix viewers scared to be alone and absolutely “unsettled”. Some are even going as far as referring to it as “shocking”.
The film, released by A24, marked the best opening weekend for the studio since 2019’s Midsommar. It’s none other than the hit Talk to Me, which already has a sequel in the works titled Talk 2 Me.
Of course, regarding the original movie, it seems to be doing numbers on Netflix. As you can see below, via X, viewers have taken to social media to express the shock and fear that the film has them experiencing. It’s certainly a good sign to see the film still having such an impact following its initial release.
Here is just some of the reaction:
‘Talk to me’ on Netflix is a great watch. Deeply disturbing and unsettling so if that’s your thing check it out. Best horror film I’ve seen for a long time.

Just watched that creepy “Talk To Me” film on Netflix. Currently trying to get my cat to walk with me to the kitchen so I don’t feel alone.

“Talk To Me” on Netflix is a cracking little horror movie. I went into it thinking it was going to be the usual thing – bunch of pretty American teenagers running and screaming. It’s Australian and SO much better than that. Actually pretty scary. Loved the ending.

Currently watching talk to me, good so far, shocking start which I liked, like that they’re using an unknown actress for the main role #TalkToMe

Lot of shocking moments in #talktome but the horror I felt when I realised a character had a crazy frog ring tone was unparalleled.

The film is based on a short film created by Michael and Danny Philippou. The two brothers also directed this feature and they plan on bringing their magic to the upcoming sequel as well. A24 has certainly taken their fair share of risks over the years, and not all of them have quite paid off. But it’s clear that Talk to Me was one that worked impressively well.
For those unfamiliar, the film is something of a twist on the timeless “Ouija board” concept. Instead of a traditional board, however, they utilize an embalmed hand to conjure spirits. It’s all fun and games – until it’s not. The young protagonists learn quickly that they’re now meddling with supernatural forces that were better off left alone. The aforementioned embalmed hand has already become an iconic element of the genre and fans were quick to make their own replicas – and purchase others.
Fans can currently check out the horror movie Talk to Me on Netflix and see for themselves whether or not they’ll be afraid to be alone after the credits roll.
