The cast of the Netflix series Stranger Things are usually supported and praised by social media. However, one of the stars has sparked a spur of backlash against them on social media. Specifically because this Stranger Things star liked a satire made against pro-Palestine supporters.
Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers in the popular Netflix series, is a Jewish-American and a member of the LGBTQ community. As for the aforementioned video, however, his decision to like it has social media users calling him homophobic and Islamophobic among other things.
This began when @BuzzingPop shared a post with the following caption on X:
“Noah Schnapp is under fire after liking a post mocking muslims and queers.”

As you can see below, X users weren’t too happy, and some of the following complaints were shared:

Many users ultimately came together to call Schnapp “an absolute horrible person,” one whose story on Stranger Things should be rewritten so that it “ends with him being eaten by a demogorgon and being forgotten forever,” and that he will “join all the other failed child actors.”
I can’t believe I used to like him the most in stranger things.

It’s worth noting that there were supporters of Schnapp and his decision to like the video. Some users claimed that the video isn’t actually homophobic or Islamophobic, believing that Schnapp had every right to like it, and that he did nothing wrong with having his own opinion on the matter:
it’s literally a video mocking Hamas and their supporters. Stop spreading misinformation.
And yes, Hamas killed people for being homosexual, it’s a fact. pic.twitter.com/0YpwYZUYUy

For those unaware, the video that Schnapp liked in the first place contains the following caption:
“A huge part of our Jewish culture is using humor to deal with trauma. It helps with the pain. Please enjoy these pro-Hamas college students on their journey to normalize a massacre. Sigh.”

The Stranger Things star previously released the following statement regarding the Palestine matter on Instagram:
“As a Jewish American, I am afraid. Afraid for my brothers and sisters in Israel, who have been senselessly attacked by Hamas. I am truly heartbroken to see the brutal murders of innocent children, women and soldiers fighting to defend themselves,” he writes.
“I, like others, want peace for both Palestinians and Israelis. Let’s stop the rhetoric and choosing sides. Instead we must recognize that we are all on the side of the fight against terrorism. Choose humanity over violence.”

The post also included a statement from Schnapp regarding a separate example of backlash he received. He shared “a beautiful picture of a young innocent girl whose life was taken by Hamas at a music festival.” This, he writes, resulted in backlash to “free Palestine” and that this is why he believes no one should choose sides.
