The Christmas season is upon us. As such, movie lovers are naturally ready to dig into some Christmas classics to get into the spirit. Fortunately, Disney Plus is bringing back two fan-favorite Christmas movies for the occasion.
Many streaming service subscribers have become accustomed to the way titles jump back and forth between services. There are numerous licenses involved, and studios still get paid for licensing to other companies.
Now that Disney owns Fox, however, it’s essentially a homecoming for these two titles to make their way back to Disney Plus. That’s right, fans can enjoy Macaulay Culkin’s iconic performances in 1990’s Home Alone and 1992’s Home Alone 2: Lost in New York conveniently on Disney Plus.
Of course, these are far from the only Christmas offerings that Disney Plus has available. In fact, they’re not even the only Home Alone titles on the service. Now some fans have always been hesitant to venture beyond Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, with 1997’s Home Alone 3 being the turning point for the franchise.
Home Alone 3 is actually a stand-alone film with new characters and a plot to match. Kevin McCallister later returned in 2002’s Home Alone 4, along with several other characters, albeit with an all-new cast. 2012’s Home Alone: The Holiday Heist introduced another stand-alone plot, and Disney finally took their own shot with the brand for 2021’s Home Sweet Home Alone.
The 2021 outing might be of particular interest for Disney Plus subscribers. It’s a new sequel to the original two movies with one returning character. Sadly, Macaulay Culkin didn’t participate in the continuation, but fans will be delighted to see Devin Ratray reprise his role as Buzz for the film. In fact, he even gives an update on Kevin, noting that his little brother now designs home security systems. How fitting!
Nevertheless, the film also didn’t receive the same reception as the original Home Alone or Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, much like its predecessors. But at least now fans can dive back into those first two classics on Disney Plus.
