It was quite exciting to see Beetlejuice 2, after years of rumors and false starts, finally get greenlit. It was even more exciting to see production actually start. Unfortunately, due to circumstances surrounding the SAG-AFTRA strike, fans were unable to see production finished. Now it could mean trouble for the 2024 release date of Beetlejuice 2.
Tim Burton’s highly-anticipated sequel to Beetlejuice was initially scheduled to be released on September 6, 2024. Fortunately, a large majority of the film was completed, with director Tim Burton claiming that they’d only need a day and a half left to finish the project. According to Variety, however, the release date could still be delayed.
The following was shared by the publication via B. Riley senior media analyst Eric Wold:
“There will be a number of 2024 titles that move into 2025 and beyond because of production delays. Studios are holding back and not talking about it to avoid showing their weak hand during negotiations. But people are waiting for it.”
As such, Beetlejuice 2 could very well be delayed until 2025 depending on when the strike ends. Of course, that depends on how little of the film has been completed. If Burton is accurate – and the film really is “99% done” – then Beetlejuice 2 could still be finished in time for its 2024 release date. Especially if Tim Burton and his team have been working on the film’s edit during this time. Ultimately, the decision lies with Warner Bros, and we’ll have to see how they handle the situation.
Be sure to stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on Beetlejuice 2 and other projects that could be potentially altered due to the strike as we have them. For now, let’s hope that the production of Beetlejuice 2 goes as smoothly as possible from this point forward. After all, with decades of development hell behind it, the long-awaited Warner Bros. sequel certainly deserves it.
