Hulu has become a great platform for cancelled shows to make a comeback. Now it looks like a revival for a cancelled Fox television series is in the works at Hulu.
This news comes via Deadline. The publication revealed that the fan-favorite series is none other than Prison Break, and interestingly enough, the new Hulu revival is “described as a new chapter” albeit “set in the world of Prison Break.”
As such, it might actually revolve around a new cast of characters. Though “details are being kept under wraps,” it’s been stated that the series “is not expected to involve the characters who were at the center of the original series and its followups on Fox, Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) and Lincoln Burrows’ (Dominic Purcell).”
The revival is being written and executive produced by Mayans M.C. co-creator, executive producer, and showrunner Elgin James via Sierra Drive. This new revival “stems from James’ deal with 20th Television, a part of Disney Television Studios, which produced the original and serves as the studio on the new offshoot.” He will executive produce along with Prison Break creator/executive producer Paul Scheuring and original series’ executive producers Dawn Olmstead, Marty Adelstein, and Neal Moritz.
The original series debuted in 2005 and lasted four seasons before being followed by a made-for-TV film titled The Final Break. This aired almost two weeks after the show’s fourth season finale in 2009. It remained the end of series until 2015 when a follow-up premiered in the form of a limited series starring both Miller and Purcell. It’s often considered the fifth season of the series.
As such, it’ll be interesting to see how the new revival from 20th Television and Hulu will go, especially without either Miller or Purcell attached. Though if it’s set in the same continuity, then it’s possible that other familiar characters and locations will be utilized, so we’ll just have to wait for more details to surface.
