The MCU is pushing forward with the upcoming theatrical release of The Marvels. Nevertheless, a new trailer for the movie might’ve just spoiled the return of a major Marvel Cinematic Universe villain.
The Marvels is set after the events of Avengers movies Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Both films revolved around Thanos and his decision to snap away half of all life in the universe. Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, as with many other superheroes at the time, suffered quite a bit of trauma as a result. Now The Marvels will dive into that trauma as it develops her character further.
As it turns out, however, she might not be the only character tied to those events. In fact, Josh Brolin’s Thanos himself might even be making a return. As mentioned, a new trailer may have spoiled his return. There was footage of the character from his previous Avengers appearances. And while flashbacks are on thing – this trailer included all-new dialogue.
Fans that view the trailer heard the following line from Josh Brolin’s Thanos:
“There will always be more to finish my work.”
The line of dialogue was never used by Thanos in any of his previous appearances. As such, it’s either something new for the film, or an unused piece of archival dialogue. Either way, Marvel is banking hard on Thanos to draw in fans of the franchise. Additionally, the line is stated alongside imagery of Zawe Ashton’s Dar-Benn, which could indicate that this character will want to continue what Thanos started. Of course, we’ll have to see the full film to know for certain.
Here’s the trailer:
Fans will be able to see the movie for themselves, and the potential return of major Marvel villain Thanos, when The Marvels hit theaters on November 10, 2023. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates as we have them.
