The upcoming MCU movie The Marvels will tie together a variety of Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, namely Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel. Now Marvel Studios has gone a step further with the film’s marketing, which has some fans calling the studio “desperate” to hype up The Marvels.
Some of the complaints point out that a newly-released trailer from the film uses footage from Avengers: Endgame. The use of footage from the incredibly successful blockbuster, including the character Thanos, has some fans feel as though Marvel Studios is being misleading with their marketing for The Marvels.
Other users have pointed out that a new poster for the film, featuring a number of different cats, has become another example of Marvel being desperate. Most people do seem to love cats, after all, and there are so many included on this poster that it does have the tendency to look like a meme. Perhaps that was the point, given that the film’s main cat – Goose – is often used for comedic effect. But some users feel the use of cats is a little too strong.
Here are some of the tweets below:
Marvel is so desperate for everyone to go see ‘The Marvels’ in the latest trailer they included scenes from Endgame.🤦 I’m sorry Marvel but, trying to connect this movie to Endgame and adding Kelsey Grammer’s Beast cameo last minute isn’t going to save this movie. 😂 pic.twitter.com/45w2eN9fkE

marvel really is getting desperate at this point if they have to paste a bunch of cat pictures on an official poster to get people to see their multi-million-dollar film https://t.co/8o41eFwFFy

I guess Disney must be pretty desperate, if they are using Thanos for their Marvels marketing. Sort of gives Rise of Skywalker Palpatine vibes. https://t.co/anWcytxQuy

Commercials for The Marvels feel SOOO desperate. I liked that first trailer! I’m hoping for the fun, body-switching superhero comedy it promised. Now it’s all “Remember the Avengers?” and “We promise this is epic. Please like the MCU again.”

I’m reading our man Kevin has only added the beast cameo after-credit scene to the Marvels in order to draw a bigger crowd?
If that’s true that’s desperate, irrelevant to the marvels film itself and again, desperate.
I’m still optimistic the Marvels can surprise us

Marvel: we have a very small audience for our film, our main characters are not beloved (nor really known much at all for that matter) what should we do?
Random desperate marketing person: DID YOU KNOW THAT EVERYBODY LOVES CATS?
Marvel: ?
Random desperate marketing person: OK:

A few financial predictions regarding The Marvels have been less than kind for the film, so it’s possible that Marvel Studios really is desperate. After all, the studio needs as many wins as they can get, and The Marvels flopping at the box office could be detrimental for their plans.
The Marvels was directed by Candyman director Nia DaCosta from a script written by Megan McDonnell.
The cast for the Marvel movie includes Brie Larson as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel, Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau. Samuel L. Jackson also reprises his role as Nick Fury for the movie.
The Marvels is set to hit theaters everywhere on November 10, 2023. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional news on the upcoming film The Marvels and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we have it.
