Garfield, the beloved and humorous creation from Jim Davis, has been reimagined numerous times over the years. Now Garfield is ready to receive a brand-new movie with actor Chris Pratt providing the voice of the character. And, as you can see below, the first look at the upcoming animated film has been released.
The first look at the new design for Garfield was shared via the official X account for the film. The new movie, titled Garfield, appears to be animated in a way that looks quite similar to the original comic panel designs.
Here’s the first look at Garfield featuring Chris Pratt:

The image was shared in honor of National Cat Day. And, as fans can see, it was a perfect image to share for the occasion. Garfield looks as cute and cuddly as ever before, with his smug smile and vivid orange fur. It’ll certainly be exciting to see him in motion as he dives into his lasagna-eating antics and hatred of Mondays. An additional image was shared where the character can be seen crossing his arms and standing upright:

Mark Dindal is directing the film from a screenplay penned by David Reynolds. In addition to Chris Pratt, the new computer-animated film also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Nicholas Hoult, Ving Rhames, Cecily Strong, Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Bowen Yang. It’s an interesting cast, especially with two MCU stars attached, so we’ll have to see how the film performs at the box office and with fans.
Moviegoers will be able to see the film in theaters on May 24, 2024. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on Garfield as we have them. For now, it looks like the film will be taking a faithful approach to its look for the titular character. Hopefully we’ll have more details regarding the film soon.
