The newly-released book, MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios written by Joanna Robinson, Dave Gonzalez, and Gavin Edwards, has shared all sorts of exciting details about the franchise. These details include two names that Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige reportedly has banned from working with the studio for their MCU projects ever again.
The two names reportedly banned from future MCU projects were shared via Dexerto. Here’s what was shared by them via the new book:
“If the Inhumans could be rehabilitated, apparently everyone in MCU history was on Feige’s call list—except Edward Norton, the franchise’s first Bruce Banner, and Joss Whedon, whose Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. characters remained in limbo.”
Of course, fans already knew Edward Norton seemed to be far removed from the MCU by this point. He only appeared in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk before being replaced with Mark Ruffalo for subsequent MCU appearances. Feige implied that this was due to Norton’s behavior on the set of the 2008 film and that they wanted an actor that would be more collaborative.
As for Joss Whedon, he’s said to have argued quite a bit with Kevin Feige over the direction of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. In fact, the television series actually contradicts the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Now it’s clear that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., along with certain other Marvel shows released prior to Disney Plus, aren’t necessarily as canon as once thought.
Though as the Multiverse is explored, it’s possible that these narratives could still resurface at a later point in time. But if they do, it will unlikely be with the involvement of Whedon. As such, it does seem likely that the book is accurate in that Kevin Feige will keep these names banned.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Marvel updates as we have them. For now, fans shouldn’t expect to see Edward Norton or Joss Whedon working on any projects any time soon.
