Emily Blunt is opening up about an interview she did in 2012. During the interview, which included an appearance on the U.K.’s Jonathan Ross Show, she delivered a story which has been considered by many to be fatphobic. Now, years later, Blunt has issued an apology as the video resurfaces on social media platforms.
The fatphobic comments in the video were made after Blunt recalls eating at Chili’s while working on Looper. Ross makes the first fatphobic comment with the following:
“If you go to Chili’s you can see why so many of our American friends are enormous.”
Blunt continued the dialogue:
“Well the girl who was serving me was enormous,” she begins. Her story continues to explain that the server was shocked to see she was actually Emily Blunt.

As shared via People, the 40-year-old celebrity claims to be quite distraught over the resurfaced footage. In fact, she claims to be “appalled” by what she stated on the show.
“I just need to address this head on as my jaw was on the floor watching this clip from 12-years ago,” Blunt shared. “I’m appalled that I would say something so insensitive, hurtful, and unrelated to whatever story I was trying to tell on a talk show.”
The Oppenheimer star continued to say that her behavior in the video is “unrecognizable” both to herself and what she stands for:
“I’ve always considered myself someone who wouldn’t dream of upsetting anyone so whatever possessed me to say anything like this in that moment is unrecognizable to me or anything I stand for,” she adds. “And yet it happened, and I said it and I’m so sorry for any hurt caused. I was absolutely old enough to know better.”
After twelve years, it’s quite interesting to see the footage resurface and Blunt’s reaction. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Blunt and her acting career as we have them.
