The fun thing about Stephen King adaptations is that many of them have spawned their own franchises. The Children of the Corn film, franchise, for example, couldn’t be any further from King’s original short story which was only an estimated 10,000 words long. Now a new movie inspired by a classic Stephen King tale is receiving negative reactions by viewers online.
Pet Sematary: Bloodlines is the fourth film in the Pet Sematary movie franchise. The series first began with an adaptation of King’s original novel in 1989. This film was followed by a sequel in 1992. The brand laid dormant until 2019 when King’s original novel was adapted again. Now, four years later, the 2019 adaptation is being followed up with a brand-new prequel.
Unfortunately, the film doesn’t seem to be receiving the positive reactions that the fans (and studio, for that matter) would hope for. In fact, as revealed via Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a 20% critic score. Viewers haven’t been much kinder to the film, with some of the following reactions shared on social media:

As a huge Stephen King fan, I was super disappointed by this. Sadly pic.twitter.com/yoTZZ6jm04— AmieByTheLake (@AmieByTheLake1) October 19, 2023
Watched the “Pet Sematary: Bloodlines.” Nothing out of the ordinary that makes it stand out. Not terrible either. Just a simple Halloween scare movie. #petsematarybloodlines #petsematary

Barely 30 minutes into Pet Semetary: Bloodlines and it makes Pet Sematary 2 look like a masterpiece.
Who the fuck greenlit this script?! #PetSemataryBloodlines pic.twitter.com/no1sXaX8zo

The new Pet Sematary Bloodlines movie is not worth the time to watch.

God, Bloodlines was fucking trash. Don’t know exactly what I expected. I guess I was just excited for a new Pet Sematary. Any new Pet Sematary, but I guess it’s true what they say.

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines is a terrible movie, horribly edited (hard to decipher what is going on at any moment). kinda boring for a very short movie. @paramountplus #PetSemataryBloodlines pic.twitter.com/Kvl5HpSspo

Of course, some horror fans probably knew what to expect with this kind of movie. In fact, it’s very possible that it could develop a cult following as the years go by. After all, that’s essentially what’s happened with 1992’s Pet Sematary Two. You can see a few positive responses to the new prequel:
I enjoyed this remake of Pet Sematary, don’t forget there’s another Pet Sematary horror thriller that’s pretty good & it’s on Paramount+ Pet Sematary Bloodlines ⬛⬛⬛

I watched “Pet Sematary: bloodlines” the other night. It was so good, it definitely had me feeling anxious. I had to play a cozy game after to cleanse my brain before bed

If you have Paramount+, I really enjoyed the new Pet Sematary and Pet Sematary Bloodlines, as well as Smile (this one is more jump scare/blood and gore moments, though
