As with the rest of Lionsgate‘s franchise, Saw X features some intense moments of torture and violence. Interestingly enough, the film’s editor had the police called on him while working on Saw X. It appears that the screams heard during these scenes were realistic enough for the neighbors to think someone was actually being tortured.
This was revealed by the film’s director, Kevin Greutert, who revealed the anecdote in an interview with NME. Editor Steve Forn was working on the scene containing the eye vacuum trap at the time, and the sounds of screaming during that Saw X scene were enough for the police to arrive.
Here’s what was shared by Greutert:
“There was a knock at the door,” Greutert said. “We have the doorbell [camera] video of the police walking up, [Forn answering the door] and the police saying, ‘The neighbors [have been] calling and saying someone’s being tortured to death in here.’ And he was like, ‘Actually, I’m just working on a movie…You can come in and see it if you want?’”
Greutert adds that the police were amused by Forn’s response:
“The cops started laughing!” the director continued. “They said, ‘We want to but, you know, you’re all right.’ It must have been a pretty realistic performance! It’s a pretty funny story…Plus Steve is such a mild mannered guy. I can only imagine the look on his face when he realized what was happening!”
Kevin Greutert himself actually has experience with editing in that department. He previously edited the original Saw film and its first four sequels. He then directed Saw VI and Saw: The Final Chapter, before returning to edit Jigsaw, and finally directed this newly-released sequel. It’s this latest entry, Saw X, that has both critics and fans raving. As such, he and Forn clearly did their job well on the film in addition to everyone else involved such as Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith.
Fans can now see Saw X in theaters. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Saw updates as we have them.
