The recently-concluded WGA strike and ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike have forced a number of Hollywood projects to be delayed or cancelled altogether. Now a new report suggests that another Disney Plus Marvel series set in the MCU has been cancelled.
While speaking on The Watch podcast, MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios co-author Joanna Robinson was discussing the situation with Daredevil: Born Again and explained how it ties in with another upcoming Marvel series in Wonder Man. Fans are already aware that Marvel Studios has been putting Daredevil: Born Again through some major creative changes. This includes hiring traditional showrunners for the series. Sadly, Robinson notes, Wonder Man might not have the opportunity to head any further into production like Born Again.
“Even after we heard about [the] ‘Daredevil’ [situation], I’ve also heard again, that they are trashing the ‘Wonder Man’ project like there is a lot of stuff that is going to go in the can.”
As noted via What’s On Disney Plus, “Disney has never announced this series is being released.” As such, Wonder Man doesn’t seem to be as much of a priority for the company. Now “because Marvel Studios is going through some major changes, as it tries to repair the damage caused by taking its eyes off the ball and dropping the quality of its films and shows,” it could have a negative impact on Wonder Man.
It mostly depends on how Disney and Marvel reassess their plans. Obviously they want to more closely curate the content they’ve been putting out. So if they determine Wonder Man isn’t going to fit their new regime, then it could indeed be cancelled. But perhaps they’ll have enough time with the SAG-AFTRA strike to sort things through enough to save it. Overall, we’ll have to see what happens.
