Disney has been increasingly involved with releasing live-action remakes for some of their most iconic animated movies. Now it looks like Disney could be tackling more recent animated entries next.
Of course, this has yet to be formally announced by the studio. But a new report does suggest that four of Disney’s more popular animated films from recent years could be next to get the treatment. In the meantime, there are already a wide number of movies in various stages of production, including Snow White, Mufasa: The Lion King, and the more recent animated film Moana (which does lend credence to the aforementioned report.)
Other live-action remakes in production at Disney include Lilo & Stitch, Hercules, Bambi, The Sword in the Stone, Robin Hood, The Aristocrats, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Clearly Disney is already eager to scan their catalogue both high and low to find features that are ripe for a new interpretation. But now newer films could also be on the list.
Here’s what was shared by The DisInsider regarding the other four films that could be remade next:
“There are also remakes in development for Princess and the Frog, Tangled, Frozen, and Tarzan,” the publication notes. “While there have been tons of rumors floating around regarding who Disney has as their top choice for these films, sources have told us that none of that is true, and these are very much in early development.”
As such, we’ll have to see if these films, such as Frozen, will be officially greenlit by the studio. For now, they still have plenty of other films from their catalogue in the process of being remade, so there will certainly be other titles announced sooner or later. We’ll just have to see what happens – and whether or not audiences will continue to support such remakes. Especially so soon after some of their animated predecessors have been released.
