Author Stephen King has inspired a vast number of movie and television adaptations based on his stories over the decades. Now one such classic story penned by Stephen King appears to be set for a brand-new adaptation.
The horror legend has been involved with such books as The Shining, Christine, IT, and Pet Sematary. As revealed in a recent interview, however, The Boogeyman director Rob Savage has his eyes set on another one of King’s short stories.
Specifically, he hopes to adapt The Langoliers, and it sounds as though the adaptation is very close to happening. Fans may recall that the short story was already adapted as a live-action miniseries in 1995. But the director of The Boogeyman believes he can more faithfully adapt the story, telling ComicBook.com:
“We’ve got such a great idea for developing that one out from the short story. Of all the ones in King’s work that have been adapted, I don’t think it’s ever been done justice to.”
It seems one of the issues holding back the adaptation at this point are a matter of rights. Nevertheless, Savage is hopeful to continue his work on adapting the story. For those unfamiliar, The Langoliers began as a short story in Stephen King’s 1990 novella collection titled Four Past Midnight.
The short story follows a group of eleven airline passengers that awaken on their flight to discover everyone else is missing. It’s an eerie story and the titular creatures are introduced as time-eating entities that consume the past and keep time flowing linearly. It’s an interesting premise and one that definitely deserves another opportunity on the screen.

One thing has remained consistent since Stephen King shocked the world with his first published novel, Carrie, in 1974 – his works will always be popular.
