Marvel Studios has had several hits and misses in recent years. One such example of a miss could arguably be Secret Invasion. Though plenty of fans enjoyed the Disney Plus series, there were quite a few divisive reactions, with many having felt the show was incredibly uneven. Now a report reveals some behind the scenes drama which could explain the issues with Secret Invasion.
This behind-the-scenes drama was briefly pointed out by THR. The publication revealed that the production of Secret Invasion was plagued with plenty of issues, including a number of firings and other issues with the studio.
This began with writer Kyle Bradstreet who was originally brought onto the series. After Marvel Studios “decided on a different direction,” however, he was fired. Brian Tucker took his place but one insider claims that “it was weeks of people not getting along, and it erupted.” As such, things never got easier for those involved.
In addition to drama with the writers, Marvel Studios apparently also fired and replaced line producers, unit production managers, and assistant directors. It’s clear that Marvel’s vision for the series fluctuated far too much to provide an enjoyable project for many fans.
As of this writing, the season finale for the series actually only has a 7% score on Rotten Tomatoes. With that in mind, one can imagine how the negative impact of the series helped fuel Marvel’s decision-making regarding Daredevil: Born Again, which will see all of its original writers and directors removed, in an effort to make a more traditional television series.
So, while the drama kept Secret Invasion from reaching its full potential, it hopefully means that Marvel will still have learned from its mistakes and keep their shows under better control and with a better treatment for those involved. As always, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
