A horror movie from 2019 has just become the number one horror movie on Netflix. It’s a great opportunity for any horror film to reach a new audience or prove that it still has legs. And for this particular Blumhouse movie, viewers are insisting that it’s “crazy as f*ck” and “insane” – among other things.
As revealed via FlixPatrol, this particular film is none other than Ma. Horror fans are likely familiar with the movie, which stars Octavia Spencer as a lonely middle-aged woman. Once she allows a group of teenagers to party in her basement, however, things begin going wrong as she becomes their tormentor.
Here are some of the reactions being shared by viewers on Ma on X, formerly known as Twitter:

Though the film in general is receiving acclaim, it’s worth noting that many viewers seem to agree that Octavia Spencer gives a terrific performance. In fact, part of the reason the film happened is that Spencer had a desire to play something different from her usual roles. Obviously she seems to have nailed the part in that case, and it would no doubt be great to see her do more roles in the horror genre.
On that note, the movie was also a success at the box office at the time of its release. With only a $5 million budget, it grossed $61.2 million at the box office. But it’s the rediscovery of the film by fans on Netflix, and its ability to reach the number one spot, that’s the sign of a truly great horror movie. Hopefully it continues to find appreciation by fans and newcomers alike.
Tate Taylor directed the movie which was written by Scotty Landes. Taylor also co-produced the film along with Jason Blum and John Norris. In addition to Octavia Spencer, the cast of the film includes Juliette Lewis, Diana Silvers, Corey Fogelmanis, Gianni Paolo, McKaley Miller and Luke Evans.
