Fans of Zack Snyder’s Justice League have been hopeful that the original cast members would still return despite the DCU resetting the franchise. According to a new report, however, the cast of Zack Snyder‘s Justice League will no longer reprise their roles for the new cinematic universe.
As shared by Variety, this includes the cast members from both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League. This means fans should no longer expect Ben Affleck to reprise his role as Batman or Henry Cavill to reappear as Superman.
Here’s what the publication shared about the cast of Justice League not returning for the DCU:
“In fact, none of the stars cast by Zack Snyder for 2016’s ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice‘ and 2017’s ‘Justice League‘ — including Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller and Momoa — will reprise their roles in the new DC universe in character. Momoa may return, just not as Aquaman.”
This seems to indicate that some cast members could actually return, just not as their original characters. The publication explains this by adding that while Jason Momoa will not be playing Aquaman, he could instead be cast as the character Lobo. Though confusingly, they also add that Viola Davis will reprise her DCEU role as Amanda Waller for Gunn’s DCU.
Furthermore, Amanda Waller will be the basis of her own series titled Waller, while James Gunn’s own Peacemaker series will return for a second season. This new season of the series will once again star actor John Cena. As such, the details are foggy at this moment, but it does look like some elements of the DCEU will carry over into the DCU which launches with Superman: Legacy in 2025.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the DCU and what elements of the DCEU will be discarded altogether. It’s certainly a difficult time for fans of the DCEU and specifically those of Snyder’s works, but one can only hope that the new DCU will still win fans over.
