It was previously reported that progress has finally started on Marvel Studios‘ X-Men reboot. The studio is said to have started to accept pitches from writers. According to another report, however, their new take on X-Men might disappoint Wolverine fans.
One major question that everyone has about a potential X-Men reboot is who could play Wolverine. After all, Hugh Jackman’s take on the character has become iconic. He’s portrayed the role for all of its live-action interpretations so far, and he’s set to reprise it for Deadpool 3, with additional appearances possible with Avengers: Secret Wars and other such projects.
Now, as shared via insider @CanWeGetToast, it sounds like Wolverine fans shouldn’t expect Hugh Jackman to be replaced any time soon. In fact, they might not even need to expect an appearance from Wolverine in Marvel’s upcoming X-Men film at all.
“The current idea to reboot the #XMen in the MCU does NOT feature Wolverine on the team,” writes the insider. Additionally, he teases the reason for the increased amount of X-Men content we’ve been seeing elsewhere.
“There’s a reason why Marvel is starting to push the X-Men so hard across all mediums, and will continue to push them until they’re on the big screen.”

Of course, it’s the absence of Wolverine that has fans perplexed. After all, he’s become such an iconic part of the brand, it’s hard to imagine X-Men without him. But as @CanWeGetToast mentions while speaking with a fellow fan, Wolverine isn’t an original member of the team.
“The Weapon X program has to be formed before Wolverine joins the team,” he notes in agreement with the fan. “It honestly might be a while before Logan joins up with the X-Men.”
Exactly. The Weapon X program has to be formed before Wolverine joins the team, and Adamantium JUST appeared in the MCU.
It honestly might be a while before Logan joins up with the X-Men.

Of course, this information should be taken with a grain of salt. But it’s possible that Marvel Studios will be taking a much different approach to the material than previous live-action adaptations. It could also keep fans engaged in an effort to see when or how the MCU’s Wolverine will ultimately be introduced. In the meantime, at least we can look forward to Hugh Jackman‘s return. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional X-Men updates as we have them.
