Fans of Marvel have been eagerly awaiting for Marvel Studios to revive the X-Men film franchise under the MCU. Now, following the resolution of the WGA strike, it looks like early development on Marvel’s X-Men reboot has started.
According to Deadline, “Marvel will start setting writer meetings later this fall for pitches on its anticipated X-Men movie.” Of course, Marvel has already started to incorporate X-Men characters into their brand. This has been revealed in both previous and upcoming projects.
A variant of Patrick Stewart’s Professor X appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, while Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool is returning for Deadpool 3 in a MCU crossover. This crossover is slated to include appearances from other X-Men characters, including Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.
As such, it’s currently unclear what path the X-Men reboot will take and just how distant, or close, it will be to its predecessors. It also seems as though Marvel Studios isn’t in much of a hurry to get it figured out just yet. According to Deadline’s report, “there is no rush to fill the job since the film hasn’t been dated yet.”
The report continues: “It’s more than likely that writer decision will be made at the top of 2024.”
In addition to Deadpool 3, there are other X-Men-related projects on the way, such as the Disney Plus animated series X-Men ’97. The upcoming series is set to pick up where the iconic 1990’s animated series ended. It’s also been rumored that the show could have an impact on the live-action side of things, though that has yet to be confirmed. Either way, Disney is finally taking advantage of having acquired the X-Men rights with their acquisition of 20th Century Fox.
