The upcoming film Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will presumably conclude what we know as the DCEU. And while some fans are eager to see what that conclusion could be like, others are disappointed that the movie is being released at all. Now some fans are calling for a boycott of Aquaman 2.
As for why they’re upset, fans have expressed their disappointment for Amber Heard being included in the film. Fans have previously voiced their concerns about having Heard reprise her role as Mera for the sequel after Johnny Depp made various allegations against her. These allegations continued throughout the infamous Depp v. Heard trial.
Amber Heard continued to defend her side of the story, however, and it was left unclear whether or not she’d return for Aquaman 2. Many reports suggested that Warner Bros began testing versions of the film both with and without Amber Heard’s character. Some fans hoped that this meant she wouldn’t be included after all. As it turns out, however, Amber Heard’s Mera will be part of the film – and thus the proposed boycott.
Here are some of the tweets from users on X calling for a boycott of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom:

Of course, as mentioned, it’s unknown if the boycott will have any real impact on the film. Previous efforts to have Heard removed altogether didn’t work, so it’s unknown if this will either. But fans are certainly willing to try. And, at a time when the DCEU has seen failing box office grosses, it might not be necessary either way.
The new sequel was directed by James Wan from a screenplay written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. He co-wrote the first Aquaman movie alongside Will Beall and James Wan.
In addition to Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Amber Heard as Mera, the cast of the film includes Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta.
Fans will be able to see Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom when it hits theaters on December 20, 2023.
