Fans of The Toxic Avenger have waited years for a new movie to get underway. Now, after waiting for news regarding Macon Blair’s remake, the official trailer for The Toxic Avenger has arrived. The new iteration looks as slimy and grotesque as ever as Peter Dinklage takes on the titular role.
The highly-anticipated remake is set to premiere at this year’s Fantastic Fest which takes place in Austin, Texas from September 21 to September 28. It’s certainly an exciting time for fans of the original flick which was released 39 years ago. Through its popularity, it spawned three sequels and surprisingly a short-lived animated series for children. But the all-new remake is genuinely R-rated which should make fans of the franchise quite happy.
In the new film:
“A horrible toxic accident transforms downtrodden janitor Winston Gooze into a new evolution of hero: THE TOXIC AVENGER!”
Here’s the newly-released official trailer for The Toxic Avenger:
As mentioned, it certainly looks like a great throwback for Troma fans and those who loved the original series. Of course, it’s also quite different, with Dinklage’s Winston Gooze offering a unique and different take on Toxie. Fingers crossed that additional news regarding the film for its release beyond Fantastic Fest comes soon. If that wasn’t enough, the original film and its sequels are also being released on 4K UHD this year with brand-new restorations. Indeed, this is a fantastic year for Troma and Toxie fans.
Macon Blair both wrote and directed the film which has its story based on the original 1984 cult classic.
In addition to Peter Dinklage, the cast of the film includes Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, Elijah Wood, and Kevin Bacon.
