A number of movies have resurfaced in popularity after being added to streaming services like Netflix and Hulu. For one particular romance now streaming on Netflix, however, it can be quite shocking to see considering this controversial romance movie actually won a Razzie.
As noted by FlixPatrol, Fifty Shades Freed, the third entry in the Fifty Shades trilogy of erotic romance films, has gone viral on Netflix. The movie has been topping the charts and as of this writing has actually reached the #1 spot worldwide. Again, for a film that once won a Razzie and happens to be part of a series of films that tend to be joked about by many viewers, it’s quite surprising to see.
Additionally, as for the film’s Rotten Tomatoes scores, it only has an 11% on the website’s Tomatometer with a slightly higher 38% for the audience score. The overall Critics Consensus notes that the film “brings its titillating trilogy to a clumsy conclusion, making for a film franchise that adds up to a distinctly dissatisfying ménage à trois.”
The 2018 film Fifty Shades Freed was directed by James Foley and written by Niall Leonard. It was based on E. L. James’s 2012 novel of the same name.
Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan led the cast of the film which also includes Eric Johnson, Rita Ora, Luke Grimes, Victor Rasuk, Jennifer Ehle, and Marcia Gay Harden.
Fifty Shades Freed was produced with a $55 million budget and managed to gross $372 million at the box office. Nevertheless, it still received negative reviews like its predecessors, with much of the criticism going towards the film’s screenplay and acting. As for the aforementioned Razzie, it won the “Worst Screenplay” category while being nominated for “Worst Director” and “Worst Supporting Actress.”
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Netflix updates as we have them. It’ll be interesting to see what tops the streaming service next.
