Brightburn was released in 2019, and now several years later, it’s finally been confirmed that a sequel is in development. Many fans have been hoping that the story would be continued. Especially in a world where superhero movies reign supreme thanks to the likes of Marvel.
Now, as shared via Deadline, the producing team behind Brightburn known as The H Collective will be launching H3 Entertainment. This will be a new company that will “integrate the Metaverse, Web3 and AI into a slate of films.” Though with controversy surrounding AI, they note that it will “respect professionals and fans while promoting responsible technology integration.”
As such, one of these projects will be the aforementioned Brightburn sequel. The property itself is owned by both H Collective and fellow producer James Gunn. And, much like H3 Entertainment’s other upcoming projects, the new sequel is one of several titles that will be made with “new technology” added to “the production process.”
Otherwise, it’s unclear what story or direction the sequel to Brightburn will take. But there were certainly plenty of openings left with the ending of the original film to proceed with. In fact, the original even included a mid-credits reference to Rainn Wilson‘s character from Super. As such, it’s possible that we’ll see further connections between the two properties.
The first Brightburn film was produced with a budget of about $6 million to $12 million. The box office was $32.9 million. As such, it wasn’t a major success, but it still turned a profit, and it’s not surprising to see that a sequel was still able to receive the greenlight. Hopefully we’ll have more details in the near future and a better understanding as to how they plan on using “the Metaverse, Web3 and AI” during its production.
