The Goosebumps television series is one of the most iconic parts of the entire brand. Now, several decades later, Disney Plus is preparing to deliver a brand-new Goosebumps series and the first trailer has been released.
The Goosebumps brand has already been revived not just in books and comics, but also with two successful theatrical films. Now the new Disney Plus series seems to be closely following in the footsteps of the feature films.
Goosebumps has been given the following logline:
“Inspired by the book series by R.L. Stine, the Disney+ series centers on a group of high school friends who accidentally unearth a nightmare for themselves as they discover a sinister secret hiding in their town…”
The synopsis continues:
“Three decades after a teenage boy named Harold Biddle passed away, the friends throw a Halloween party in his old house, prompting a new haunted reality to come to life. As the kids work together to save their town, they find out some chilling discoveries about their own families.”
Here’s the trailer:
As mentioned, this is far from the first Goosebumps television series. Though this appears to have a long-running narrative, the original series ran from 1995 to 1998 and mostly featured adaptations of R.L. Stine‘s books in an anthology format.
Rob Letterman, director of the 2015 Goosebumps film adaptation, directed the first episode of this Disney Plus series. Letterman is also attached as a writer and executive producer. Nick Stoller also writes and executive produces for Goosebumps.
The cast of the series includes Justin Long, Rachael Harris, Ana Yi Puig, Miles McKenna, Will Price, Zack Morris and Isa Briones.
The series is scheduled to premiere on Disney Plus in October 2023 just in time for the Halloween season. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Goosebumps and Disney Plus updates as we have them.
