The DCEU is slowly crawling to its end with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Of course, this has been a long road, and it doesn’t seem to be getting any better. In fact, a new report claims that Warner Bros. has given up on Aquaman 2 altogether.
In between co-star Amber Heard’s controversies, James Gunn rebooting the DC franchise, and Hollywood’s current strikes, it’s been difficult to determine the outcome of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. If the new report is at all accurate, however, then Warner Bros has already determined the film a failure.
Warner Bros has already been rather slow with advertising the film. Now we may know why. It seems like the studio is hesitant to spend a lot of money on marketing for a film that they don’t believe will succeed. We’ve already seen this happen with The Flash which bombed despite the pre-release hype.
“Because they know it’s bad,” claims KC Walsh on X when alleging why Warner Bros isn’t marketing the film. “They know it’ll lose money, and they aren’t putting a marketing budget behind it at all.”

Of course, this should still be taken with a grain of salt. But it certainly seems like a reasonable possibility, especially when The Flash did bomb and Warner Bros. will soon have a new continuity to market. It’s certainly a sad time for fans of the DCEU, but it’s to be expected at this point.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on Warner Bros, Aquaman 2, and the overall future of DC as we have them. For now, it looks like WB is simply ready to focus on the future of their giant comic book brand and get the Aquaman sequel off their release schedule.
