The Marvel Cinematic Universe is headed towards the highly-anticipated crossover event, Avengers: Secret Wars. The new film will act as a conclusion to both Phase 6 of the MCU and the ongoing Multiverse Saga. Surprisingly, however, it could lead to a complete reboot of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Of course, this is only one of several theories surrounding Avengers: Secret Wars. The upcoming blockbuster will follow the events of the upcoming film Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and various other projects which include time travel and jumping between universes. As such, it’s easy to see why a reboot could be a likely decision for Marvel.
In fact, the original Secret Wars comics launched a reboot of the comic book continuity. Thus it makes sense that Disney could very easily do the same with their MCU. And with the addition of so many other properties, including the X-Men and Fantastic Four, it would make perfect sense to create a new timeline where all of these characters existed from the beginning.
It would also give Disney a chance to use characters like Iron Man or Black Panther again. Many fans have expressed their disappointment with characters like Tony Stark being written out. And in light of the negative reviews from projects like She-Hulk and Thor: Love and Thunder, a reboot might even be appreciated by some moviegoers.
Other characters that could join the MCU include Miles Morales. And it wouldn’t just have to be new characters, either, as fan-favorites like Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Tom Holland as Spider-Man could also rejoin the new timeline. The possibilities really are endless – it just depends on what path Disney feels would benefit the longevity of their comic book franchise.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on Marvel and whether or not a reboot could be on the way. As for now, we’ll just have to see what the inevitable release of Avengers: Secret Wars holds for fans.
